THE STORY

Agent Overview

Restaurant reviews contain valuable insights, but manually reading hundreds of reviews to identify patterns, customer preferences, and frequently mentioned dishes is time-consuming.

I wanted to explore whether AI could automate that process and give both sides a faster read on customer feedback - for an owner, which dishes win and what keeps coming up in complaints; for a diner, what’s actually worth ordering.

What it does

  • Retrieves and analyzes Google reviews
  • Extracts menu information from restaurant websites or uploaded menus
  • Matches customer comments to specific menu items
  • Identifies popular dishes and recurring themes
  • Generates a sentiment report highlighting strengths, concerns, and customer preferences
People don’t want to sift through reviews.
They want the insights hidden within them.

THE PAYOFF

What You Get

Instead of scrolling through hundreds of reviews, you get a single, on-the-fly report:

  • An overview of total reviews — positive, neutral, and negative — across a date range you choose
  • A topic-by-topic breakdown, each with its own positive / neutral / negative split
  • The dishes customers praise most

In a quick run on Raising Cane’s in Indianapolis, it surfaced chicken fingers, Cane’s sauce, Texas toast, and the sandwich as the most-talked-about items — the kind of read that would otherwise take reading through hundreds of reviews by hand.

Design decisions

The hard part wasn’t collecting the reviews—it was matching customer comments to the correct menu items. People rarely use the exact names shown on a menu, often referring to dishes by ingredients, nicknames, abbreviations, or misspellings.


To address this, the workflow creates a reference list of dish-name variations so feedback can be linked to the correct items before sentiment is analyzed.
Apify scraper collects Google reviews at scale, while the Google Cloud APIidentifies the business and retrieves its details.
